Delaware’s Health Insurance Marketplace is open for enrollment from November 1 through January 31, 2017. And it’s pretty easy to do. However, if you choose not to get insurance by the deadline, you will likely face a penalty that could cost as much as the health plan itself.

5 Things You’ll Need to Enroll

  • Birth dates of those applying for coverage

  • Social Security numbers of those applying for coverage

  • Paystubs, W-2 forms or other information about your family’s income

  • Policy/member numbers for any current health coverage

  • Information about any health coverage from a job that’s available to you or your family

Enroll Online Through Healthcare.gov

Healthcare.gov is the only online source where you can apply for and, if eligible, receive federal tax credits when purchasing and enrolling. In general, tax credits may be available for individuals whose household income falls between 138% and 400% of the federal poverty level (FPL).

Enroll Through a Provider

If you know you are not eligible for the premium tax credit, you have the option of purchasing insurance directly through the insurance company’s website. In general, people whose household income exceeds 400% of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL) are not eligible for federal tax credits.

Apply for Medicaid or Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP)

If you or someone in your household might be eligible for public health coverage, you can apply online directly through ASSIST . In general, this is available to those whose household income falls below 138% of the Federal Poverty Level (or 212% for children and pregnant women).

Protect Yourself Against Identity Fraud

To sign up for health insurance, you will have to provide some personal information. As long as you sign up through Choose Health Delaware or Healthcare.gov , you can trust that your information is safe and secure. Here are some tips to help you keep your personal information and identity safe:

  • Don’t give any personal information to anyone without official identification. All licensed Choose Health Delaware Guides have the proper ID. By law, they are not permitted to share any of your information.

  • There’s no need to give out your Social Security number except when you’re signing up. So unless you’re completing the application, keep it to yourself.
